Like many of my friends, I was raised with a “Clorox” mentality, where the thinking is that it’s not clean unless your lungs burn. I was crazy for everything scented, from candles to personal care products.  If it smelled clean I “automatically” assumed it was in fact “clean” (and good for you). 

I remember bonding with my mom as she would show me how to apply makeup and all the wonderful smelling body sprays and lotions. She even showed me her “secret” for oily skin (baby powder). Little did I know that baby (talcum) powder would later be disclosed as massively toxic.

Join us on the 3rd of every month for some community and connection. 

As we gather around the fire we will:

🔥Release 3 things from the previous month that no longer serve us. We will write them on paper and release them into the fire to create space for the NEW to enter.

🔥Renew our energy and mind as we set 3 new intentions for the month ahead.

🔥Reconnect with nature and our community. 

Magic happens when like-minded people come together with a common goal. Buckets of research studies have shown how connecting with others can, not only improve our health- mental and physical- but also helps us rebuild ourselves.

We will create a safe and empowering environment where our amazing community can dive into your relationship with yourself, others, and the nature.

Since it's Friday night, feel free to stay longer than usual. Grab your favorite snacks and beverage and hang out a while!

What Are Essential Oils?

What is CBD?

CBD is an acronym for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol, is a one of the main natural cannabinoids in the industrial hemp plant. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that attach to the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) receptors in your body and brain. Hemp has more than 113 known cannabinoids in it. The receptors are inside the membranes of your cells in your body. Research has identified two cannabinoid receptors. CB-1 is found primarily in the nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands, and organs. CB-2 is mainly in the immune system and related areas.

How does CBD work?

CBD interfaces with your body's Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS coordinates systems in the body like hunger, emotions, pain, recall, parts of the nervous system, etc. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are all over the body, including connective tissue, organs, brain, glands, and immune cells. The cannabinoid system performs different tasks depending on the tissue, but in all cases, homeostasis is the desired outcome.

Homeostasis refers to a system being in a stable or balanced state. It is the body's mechanism to maintain a steady internal environment, which it does by always monitoring and adjusting based on current conditions. For example, when we become stressed, our adrenal glands release cortisol. This is commonly known as the "fight or flight" hormone, which lets us react quickly in a dangerous situation.

Is CBD Safe?

CBD is considered "generally well-tolerated with a good safety profile" in a 2018 World Health Organization report. Getting your CBD from a safe, trusted company with high quality controls is very important; many CBD companies do not have adequate quality control and don't know where their product is sourced. We have one of the best quality control systems in the industry.

CBD versus THC

CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, which is also in the cannabis plant) are different. Sometimes, the two are confused. CBD is not psychoactive and does not cause the euphoric side effects THC is known for. This means CBD products can be used without concern that THC would cause a reaction.

CBD and THC both bind to the CB-2 receptor while interfacing with the CB-1 receptors differently. THC's molecular composition allows it to bond directly with CB-1 receptors. When this bond is formed, the reaction creates brain signals that trigger psychoactive effects of THC. CBD does not bond directly with CB-1 receptors according to research. Its presence can invalidate the bond between THC and the CB-1 receptors, canceling side effects caused by THC.

Are hemp & marijuana the same?

No, they are different. Both plants are in the same Cannabis plant family, but hemp is completely different from marijuana in how it works, how it's grown, and how it's used.

Will CBD get me "high"?

No. CBD does not have euphoric side effects.

The eating habit that gets in the way of results...
A while ago I slipped into a not-so-mindful habit … I was multitasking while I was eating.
 
And by that I mean, I wasn’t paying attention to the food going into my mouth and instead was focused on my phone or my computer screen.
 
I know I am not alone in this. 
 
It’s something most of us do almost daily. We do it to save time, keep ourselves entertained, and just out of habit.
 
But when I realized what was happening - I made a really important connection with my new “habit” and my wellness.
 
That’s because when I was distracted, I barely NOTICED or TASTED anything I was eating.
 
When you consider that it takes about 20 minutes for our bodies to send “I’m full” cues to your brain, you can quickly see how easy it is to overeat.
 
Not to mention you end up ignoring how the food makes you FEEL – physically and emotionally.
 
Plus, instead of eating because we’re hungry, we can start to rely on outside cues like our emotions or because we see or smell tasty foods. 
 
Or even because it’s a certain time (think dessert after dinner even when you’re full), or for entertainment’s sake, or to relieve boredom or other emotions.
 
This is where mindful eating comes in. 
 
Basically, it’s simply slowing down and really paying attention when you eat.
 
Here are the basics. Just pick one meal and:
 
  • Turn off the TV and put your phone out of reach.
  • Eat slowly, taking time to chew and taste each bite.
  • Focus on how your body feels with each bite.
  • Stop eating when you’re full.
  • And also, before and after you eat, note – without judgment – whether you are truly hungry, and whether what you just ate benefits your health, goals, and your well-being. 
When you start to tune in, you’ll probably notice that your habits and food preferences begin to change …
 
and you’ll begin to make choices that help you feel better and reach your goals faster.
 
You don’t have to do this with EVERY meal. Just start with one a day and see what happens.
 
To get something different, you have to DO something different!

It can also be perfect for helping you to cope with that extra stress that pops up during the holiday season, which will soon be in full swing. 
 
If you guessed meditation … you’re right! 
 
Meditation is a GREAT tool to help you become more mindful – which we’re focusing on a lot this month.
 
That’s because when you’re MINDFUL it basically means you are PRESENT and AWARE – which plays a huge role in your results, motivation, and even your workouts. 
 
Having a meditation practice is a lot more mainstream today than it was 10 years ago. 
 
In fact, almost as many people in the US meditate as do yoga (a little over 14% each).
 
Researchers are still investigating exactly HOW it works, but we do know that besides slowing down brain waves …
 meditation helps you grow more gray matter in your hippocampus (which is linked with improving your mood & focus and slowing down age-related decline in cognitive functioning).
 
It’s definitely worth considering adding meditation to your wellness/fitness toolkit!
 
It’s easy to get started – just sit quietly in a comfy chair for a few minutes with your eyes closed, focusing on your breath and feeling your belly and chest rise and fall as you inhale and exhale. That’s it.
 
Try doing that for a few days, gradually increasing your time as it feels right. I add essential oils to help me deepen my focus.
 
Or you can use an app – there are dozens out there! (10 Percent Happier, Insight Timer (free, this is the one I use), Calm, and Headspace.) Also, my team put together a text series using Deepak Chopra's guided meditation 21 day series. This is how I started meditating, and it's amazing!
