Like many of my friends, I was raised with a “Clorox” mentality, where the thinking is that it’s not clean unless your lungs burn. I was crazy for everything scented, from candles to personal care products.  If it smelled clean I “automatically” assumed it was in fact “clean” (and good for you). 

I remember bonding with my mom as she would show me how to apply makeup and all the wonderful smelling body sprays and lotions. She even showed me her “secret” for oily skin (baby powder). Little did I know that baby (talcum) powder would later be disclosed as massively toxic.

What Are Essential Oils?

What is CBD?

CBD is an acronym for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol, is a one of the main natural cannabinoids in the industrial hemp plant. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that attach to the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) receptors in your body and brain. Hemp has more than 113 known cannabinoids in it. The receptors are inside the membranes of your cells in your body. Research has identified two cannabinoid receptors. CB-1 is found primarily in the nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands, and organs. CB-2 is mainly in the immune system and related areas.

How does CBD work?

CBD interfaces with your body's Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS coordinates systems in the body like hunger, emotions, pain, recall, parts of the nervous system, etc. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are all over the body, including connective tissue, organs, brain, glands, and immune cells. The cannabinoid system performs different tasks depending on the tissue, but in all cases, homeostasis is the desired outcome.

Homeostasis refers to a system being in a stable or balanced state. It is the body's mechanism to maintain a steady internal environment, which it does by always monitoring and adjusting based on current conditions. For example, when we become stressed, our adrenal glands release cortisol. This is commonly known as the "fight or flight" hormone, which lets us react quickly in a dangerous situation.

Is CBD Safe?

CBD is considered "generally well-tolerated with a good safety profile" in a 2018 World Health Organization report. Getting your CBD from a safe, trusted company with high quality controls is very important; many CBD companies do not have adequate quality control and don't know where their product is sourced. We have one of the best quality control systems in the industry.

CBD versus THC

CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, which is also in the cannabis plant) are different. Sometimes, the two are confused. CBD is not psychoactive and does not cause the euphoric side effects THC is known for. This means CBD products can be used without concern that THC would cause a reaction.

CBD and THC both bind to the CB-2 receptor while interfacing with the CB-1 receptors differently. THC's molecular composition allows it to bond directly with CB-1 receptors. When this bond is formed, the reaction creates brain signals that trigger psychoactive effects of THC. CBD does not bond directly with CB-1 receptors according to research. Its presence can invalidate the bond between THC and the CB-1 receptors, canceling side effects caused by THC.

Are hemp & marijuana the same?

No, they are different. Both plants are in the same Cannabis plant family, but hemp is completely different from marijuana in how it works, how it's grown, and how it's used.

Will CBD get me "high"?

No. CBD does not have euphoric side effects.

What “I’ll start tomorrow” really means...
We’ve all said it… I’ll start tomorrow.
 
And we usually even mean it! 😆
 
And maybe we DO start tomorrow… but before too long, we find ourselves focused on yet another restart… and yet another tomorrow!
 
The truth is, whether you’re talking about working out, cleaning up your diet, getting more sleep, or starting a new side business…..
 
The I'll start tomorrow mindset is a HUGE obstacle between you and your goals.
 
And the more you say it, the bigger that obstacle grows.
 
I’ll start tomorrow is NOT laziness (even though that is what we often tell ourselves).
 
It’s actually about fear: fear of failure, of change, and maybe even of success. 
 
This fear is sneaky because the longer you put off starting, the harder it becomes to believe you can achieve your goals.
 
Here’s what to do instead of waiting till tomorrow:
 
Start TODAY with just ONE SMALL THING.
  • Take a walk around the block instead of waiting to begin that fancy 12-week periodized workout plan
  • Make a healthy choice for dinner, instead of expecting yourself to dive full-force into a complete meal-planning program
  • Move more and sit less (while being intentional about it)

The whole point is just to START.

The real reason you can’t sleep
You know those nights when you slip into bed and the sheets feel soooo good?
 
Your body is tired, your mind is calm, and you’re perfectly set up for a great night of Zzzs. 
 
It’s the best!
 
And then there are those nights you go to bed and just can’t get comfortable. 
 
Your muscles are tight from sitting all day, and your mind can’t seem to settle down.
 
It seems to take FOREVER to fall asleep and when you finally drift off, you toss and turn all night long.
 
Ugh. Not fun.
 
Here’s the difference:
 
The nights you fall asleep easily usually follow the days you did something to EARN that sleep.
 
When you think about sleep that way, it makes it a whole lot easier to set yourself up for sleep success!
 
If you don’t make it a point to be physically active — and/or you sit in front of a screen for most of the day — you’re making it harder for your body to get into a good sleep groove.
 
Here’s how to earn that sleep:
  • Be active during the day.
    Regular exercise doesn't just boost your health, it sets the stage for deeper sleep. Hit the gym, take a brisk walk, and/or find a reason to move — your body will thank you at bedtime.

  • Train your brain.
    Make it a habit to do activities that give you a mental challenge.

  • Release tension.
    Help ease stress and work out muscle tension with yoga, stretching, or mobility work.

  • Eat well.
    Give your body the right nutrition (in the right amounts!) and plenty of water during the day to keep it functioning at its best.

  • Go outside.
    Natural light and fresh air can improve and help lock in your sleep cycle.
